Objective

Upon completion of the course, student will be competent in applying their knowledge of elasticity and strength in the measuring of structures. In addition student will strengthen basics of mechanical engineering, design and machine safety competences.

Content

- basic concepts of the strength of materials
- tension in structures
- changes in form and dimensioning in cases of tension, compression, shearing, bending and torsion
- buckling

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Satisfactory (1-2): Student understands phenomena related to subject in general level. Student is able to answer to theory questions related to subject. Student is also able to identify and analyze the most relevant formulas related to subject.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good (3-4): Student is able to answer correctly to theory questions related to subject. In addition student knows how to apply calculation formulas to real life calculation problems.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5): Student understands the phenomena related to subject and is able to apply calculation methods to real life dimensioning problems.

Assessment methods and criteria

Two midterm exams or final exam.
Assignments affect the grade.
