Objective

The student knows how to balance his own role as a successor of the family business and as an entrepreneur. The student recognizes the special issues related to family businesses and knows how to consider their effects on the operation and management of family businesses. The student knows the key areas of generational change and knows how to plan the implementation of generational change. Students offer each other peer support and like-minded company.

Content

SeAMK Successor School consists of the following entities:
- monthly meetings, many of which also include SeAMK's own alumni
- making a learning diary
- making a generational change plan
- discussions with experts

Themes for monthly meetings
- Am I an entrepreneur and successor to the family business?
- What are the special characteristics of a family business and what do they affect?
- What is ownership? What is a good owner like?
- How to create an open discussion culture in a family business?
- What is a successful generational change like?
- How to take over know-how and management in a family business?
- How is it possible to transfer the ownership, also taking into account the various tax reliefs?
- What documents and agreements are needed for generational change?
- What are the special features of generational changes implemented on land and forest farms?
- How to get along with siblings?
- How can the generation change be financed?
- How to build a functional board and management teamwork?

3 ECTS credits when the student participates in at least 8 of themes classes and completes the related learning tasks
5 ECTS credits, when the student participates in at least 8 of themes classes, completes the related learning tasks, and completes a preliminary generation change plan
The student also has the opportunity for 1-2 personal discussions with a SeAMK expert
