Objective

Competence in the construction process
The student can apply the basic concepts to common stress cases.

Competence in structural engineering
Students will understand the basic concepts associated with the strength of materials. They will be competent in determining axial, bending, shearing and torsional stresses for simple bar structures. Students will be able to determinate the amount of strains and displacements in various cases. Students will be able to solve simple buckling problems and utilize the theory of plasticity for simple bar structures. Students will be able to calculate principal stresses.
