Objective

Upon completion of the course, students are aware of the special nature of old age as a stage of life and of their own learning needs. They are able to explain and compare changes in aged people's functional capacity and coping in daily life as well as theories and research on old age and ageing. Students apply gerontological knowledge in their work with clients. They are developing an overall idea of their future profession in elderly care.

Content

Practical training in a care or nursing setting selected by the student. As far as possible in the placement, the aim is to practise basic care or nursing. Gerontological reflection assignment.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Pass: Upon completion of the course, students are aware of their learning needs regarding old age as a stage of life. They are able to interpret and apply gerontological knowledge in their work with clients.

Fail: Students have a narrow understanding of their learning needs regarding old age as a stage of life. Their personal learning needs are unrealistic.
