Objective

The student
-is able to identify the needs of patients and their next-of-kin in planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting nursing care.
-knows the structure of the service provision system, the collaborating authorities and typical service pathways for various client groups in acute and critical situations.
-is able to give oral reports under supervision.
- is able to deal with patients in various life situations.
-is familiar with the principles of patient-oriented, resource-based and multi-professional nursing of patients and their next-of-kin.
- is able to utilize information and nursing technology and equipment.
- is able to apply ethical guidelines and principles and knows how sustainable development is taken into account in nursing in acute care.

Content

Care and service provision system for acutely ill patients, main concepts and different care situations for medical, surgical, cardiac, respiratory and neurological acute patients.
Triage in hospital acute care.
Assessment of the patient's status by using cABCDEF-protocol, monitoring the patient, planning and implementation of care.
Securing patient´s vital functions.
Reporting and consulting by using ISBAR-protocol.
Nursing interventions, medication and fluid care.
Most common laboratory and radiation examinations.
Non-invasive ventilation care in emergency and intensive care for cardiac and pulmonary failure patients.
Advanced Life Support (ALS), in-hospital resuscitation protocol.
Cardial rhythms.
Glasgow Coma Scale.
Written documentation and oral information by using ISBAR.

SeAMK Student: During the Summer you can complete theory independently. Drug calculations, Skills labs, simulation and exam with your own group.
Recommended that the student has 100ECTS when taking this course. Internal medical diseases, surgical nursing and medication and fluid care must be completed before taking this course.

Qualifications

This course suits for nursing student who has completed at least 60ECTS nursing studies.
In this course we expect that the student has previous knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical and surgical nursing and medication and fluid care.

This course is alternative for nursing in acute and critical situations, which happens in contact teaching.
SeAMK students have to complete exam, drug calculations, skills albs and simulations in contact lessons at school.
