Objective

The student is able to understand his/her professional responsibility for securing and promoting the safety of patients receiving drug care.
The student is able to plan, implement and evaluate safe drug care for various diseases.
The student is able to dispense pharmaceutical dosage forms correctly.
The student is able to safely administer intracutanous, subcutanous, intramuscular and ventrogluteal injections.
The student is able to observe side and combined effects of medicines and to evaluate the effectiveness of drug care.
The student is able to perform drug calculations correctly.
The student understands the importance of counselling a client / patient

Content

The nurse and drug care. Provision of pharmaceuticals in hospital and out-of-hospital care. Handling and storage of medicines. Drug calculations. Drug safety and responsibility for informing those involved, administering IC, SC, IM and VG injections. Effective mechanisms, side and combined effects of drugs. Evaluation of the patient's drug care. Action in risk situations.

The student is only partly aware of his/her responsibility for safe drug care. He/she can do drug calculations correctly. The student has some knowledge about the process safe drug care. He/she knows how to safely administer intracutanous, subcutanous and intramuscular injections.

The student
- is not aware of his/her responsibility for safe drug care
- cannot perform drug calculations correctly.
- is not familiar with the process of safe drug treatment
- does not know how to safely administer intracutanous, subcutanous and intramuscular injections.

Qualifications

Basics of Drug Care course should be completed before taking the current course.

Further information

skills labs are compulsory.The student must do those with another group, if she/ he misses the classes.
