Objective

WORKING COMMUNITY COMPETENCE

Students are able to recognize the social background of various phenomena. They are able to discuss the background of social problems, health sociology and social change. They know the central institutions and rights in Finnish society. They promote their interaction skills by focusing on the history of the clients' life course. Students contribute to public discussion in society and become aware of their possibilities to influence society. Students study the social security system as a part of their professional nursing competence.

Content

Social problems, the sociology of health, social change, basic rights, public administration, development of the Finnish society from the beginning of the 20th century until today, welfare society, and the Finnish social security system.

Current material selected by the Lecturer.

Grade 5
Students
- analyse critically the themes in the study material
- produce ideas and interpretations about the topics and demonstate ability to analyse phenomena in their social contexts
- know how to counsel clients on social security
- as well-informed citizens, are able to participate in public discussion on the development of social policy

3-4
Students
- appropriately understand the themes in the study material and are able to produce some own ideas about the topics
- present interpretations indicative of sociological imagination
- know main features of the Finnish social security system and
are able to give justified opinions about problems related to the topics

1-2
Students
- attend lectures and demonstrate that they understand the central themes in the study material
- discuss relevantly the most important viewpoints related to topics
- know the central features of the Finnish social security system and are able to work in nursing duties appropriately
