Objective

In addition to the basics of router configuration and routing, the student is able to utilize the advanced features of modern routers for defining network service levels, building secure networks, and enabling efficient network management.

Content

- VLAN
- Static and dynamic routing (OSPF, EIGRP)
- Routing protocols (OSPFv3, BGP)
- QoS (Traffic shaping, prioritization)
- Router security (ACL, port security, VPN, Zero Trust)
- IPv6 ja dual-stack configuration
- Network automation and management (Ansible, Netconf/YANG, SDN-perusteet)
- Fault management and monitoring (Ping, Traceroute, SNMP, NetFlow)
- Cloud based routing, SD-WAN, HSRP, VRRP

Qualifications

No previous studies are required.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student reproduces the content of the course materials mostly correctly and configures routers according to the given instructions.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student describes the technical functionalities and limitations of modern routers with only minor inaccuracies and independently configures routers according to the given instructions. They justify the solutions they implement.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to the above, the student incorporates content from sources outside the course materials into their solutions and critically evaluates the reliability of these sources.
