Networks and Bus interfaces (3cr)

Objective

Students will be able to design the different serial data communication methods of embedded systems, including physical data transmission and the realization of a transfer link and network.

Content

Principles of serial data transmission, physical and data link layer, synchronous and asynchronous data transmission. Internal networks of an embedded system: One-wire, Two-wire and SPI. External data transmission networks: RS232, RS485 and CAN.
Wireless network technology. Message frames, point-to-point and multipoint communication

Qualifications

No previous studies are required.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1: Student understands the basic functions of busses.
3: Student can analyze separate busses and networks and seek errors.
5: Student can also build new communication protocols independently.
