Children and youth as media users (5cr)

Objective

Upon completion of the course, students will be competent in identifying the ways in which children and youth use media. They will be capable of explaining how children and youth produce media content themselves and evaluating the media competence of people of different ages. They will know how to combine media and learning. Students will also be able to distinguish between media protection and media education.

- Definitions of social media and media literacy
- Children and youth as users of social media
- Children and youth as producers of media contents
- New types of phenomena in youth culture created by media
- Media, esp. social media and games, as tools for learning
- Perspectives concerning media protection
