Objective

Students will widen their knowledge of empowerment-related current social work issues backed up with relevant theoretical perspectives. The aim is to enhance students? skills in empowering social work.

Content

Current knowledge of selected fields of social work.

Qualifications

Students should be able to read literature in English and to speak and write comprehensible English.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Grade 1-2:
Students participate in the learning circle and prepare a presentation and a report to demonstrate ability to present salient contents of source material. Students participate in the excursion and ask questions actively.
Grade 3-4:
In addition to the requirements above, students search for relevant material, demonstrate their knowledge of the topics discussed and write a reflective report that reflects evaluative and critical thinking.
Grade 5:
In addition to the requirements above, students demonstrate ability to reflect on current issues critically and theoretically.

Materials

Current issues in social work, for example community work, social work with ethnic groups, social work with criminals and drug users are the main issues.

Teaching methods

Independent and group work, excursion, presentations of students.
