Objective

The student can define the basic concepts of business, different types of business concepts and ways of earning income in different professions. Student can interpret the meaning of the different stages involved in creating and planning business and the significance of those stages in establishing a health, vibrant business. Student can compile the basic business plans. Student can find the essential public and private stakeholders and sources of information in Finland that support new and developing enterprises.

Content

Part 1: Entrepreneurship and new Business Opportunities
- Introduction to the course
- Preliminary assignment: student gets to know an example entrepreneur in her/his professional area (by interviews, observation, articles, via Internet, etc.) and writes a short presentation and gives reasons for her/his choice.
- Business opportunities (detection/creation)
- Business idea, business concepts, and the process of establishing a business
- Examples of entrepreneurs and the business ideas they created

Part 2: Basic Business Concepts (online studies)
- Business and its sectors
- Types of innovations and the commercialization of them
- Sales and marketing
- Competition and competitive tools
- Stakeholders, supporting measures and sources of information
- the basics of business planning and analysis of the business environment (PESTE, SWOT)

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
