DESCRIPTION OF THE DEGREE PROGRAMME AND AREAS OF COMPETENCE

The degree provides the skills to work in demanding specialist and front-line positions in a technology company. It develops skills in automation systems design, industrial internet, digital manufacturing, product development, software engineering and project management. It is suitable for engineers in fields such as automation, mechanical engineering, information technology and process engineering. The scope of the degree is 60 credits.

Classes are mainly held on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, approximately two weekends per month. Some of the classes are taught face-to-face and some can be followed remotely. Some classes are also taught entirely by distance learning. The course also includes independent work.

The thesis is a development project based on the theoretical knowledge of the subject area, the knowledge acquired in the work and the studies undertaken. The aim of the thesis is to solve a current challenge or problem in the student's workplace or organization. The topic of the thesis is chosen by the student and the search for a topic starts at the beginning of the studies.

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE PROFILE
The master's degree in Automation Engineering is designed for people who want to develop their skills and advance their career. The aim of the programme is to provide graduates with the broad and in-depth knowledge and theoretical skills necessary to work as automation systems experts.

A Master’s degree from a university of applied sciences provides the same qualifications for public office as a higher university degree.

Development

Processes in manufacturing companies are evolving rapidly as a result of digitalisation. This change is strongly reflected in smart machines, production control, control systems and various digital services. The YAMK degree in Automation Engineering has been developed to provide industrial experts and managers with the latest knowledge on industrial digitalisation methods.

Objective

The aim of the degree programme is to provide graduates with broad and in-depth knowledge and the theoretical knowledge required to work in demanding specialist positions in the field of automation technology.
