Objective

The student
- gets skills for child- and family friendly work, breastfeeding guidance, as well as protection and promotion of breastfeeding with the 20-hour breastfeeding counselor - training from WHO and Unicef.
- is able to promote breastfeeding with the expectant and childbearing family by means of dialogic interaction, taking into account different situations.

Global strategy for infant and young child feeding
Interaction supporting the family's self-reliance in breastfeeding guidance
Breastfeeding counselling during pregnancy and after birth and in the most common breastfeeding challenges
Protection of breastfeeding and practices that support breastfeeding
Anatomy of the breast and physiology of breastfeeding
The right suction grip for the baby and efficient suction
The effect of the baby's and mother's illnesses on breastfeeding

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Passed
The student
- demonstrates mastery of the knowledge base of healthcare work and applies the knowledge in a wide range of breastfeeding counselling.
- is able to make independent decisions in various breastfeeding counselling situations.
- is able to listen, support and counsel the individual client and her family in a client-oriented manner in infant nutrition.
- evaluates and critically uses evidence-based knowledge in the development of breastfeeding counseling as part of healthcare work.
- acts as a public healthcare expert in multidisciplinary groups and collaborative projects.
- develops her/himself and breastfeeding awareness as part of healthcare work.

Failed
The student
-shows inadequate management of basic health care knowledge and implementation in breastfeeding guidance.
-possess insufficient independent decision-making skills in breastfeeding counseling situations.
-does not know how to act in a sufficiently client-oriented and client-safe manner in healthcare work.
-insufficiently justifies her/his actions in breastfeeding counseling situations.
-have insufficient skills to participate in the development work of health care work.
