Objective
The student
- is able to work in multiprofessional surgical / perioperative patient care, taking into account the individuality of the client / patient and the requirements of different treatment and service environments, ethics and patient safety.
-can plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based nursing for the patient and his / her next to kin regarding the most common surgical procedures.
-can document according to structured documentation and report verbally.
-masters the key procedures, treatment methods and diagnostic tests required in surgical and perioperative care.
-can monitor the patient's condition according to the ABCDE protocol and identify the need for treatment at different stages of the patient care path.
-can recognize pain and apply the principles of pain treatment in different stages of the surgical patient's treatment path.
-applies the principles of wound care in the care of a surgical patient.
-understands the importance of asepsis, documentation and reporting as part of the patient's overall treatment.
-knows how to safely plan and implement the patient's nutritional treatment, drug and fluid therapy and blood transfusion, as well as evaluate their effects.
-can guide patients and their loved ones regarding key surgical treatment procedures and support the patient's ability to function, rehabilitation and self-care.
-evaluates his own professional competence critically from the perspectives of strengths and developmental requirements.

The student
- does not know how to search for information required in individual situations in operative / surgical and perioperative nursing.
- cannot demonstrate the ability to use the knowledge base of client-centered operative / surgical and perioperative nursing.
- does not make a difference between everyday knowledge and evidence-based knowledge in client-centered clinical nursing.
- is not competent to work in individual client-centered operative / surgical and perioperative nursing situations even if instructed.
- cannot demonstrate awareness of the ethical principles for registered nurses in client-centered clinical nursing.
- is not competent to work as a member of a team or to share his/her knowledge in client-centered operative / surgical and perioperative nursing.
- is unable to analyse his/her strengths or development needs in client-centered clinical nursing.
- patient safety is at risk.
Further information
It is possible that in these clinical training environments may also be under-aged patients. Therefore, the student must present a criminal record certificate before starting this training.

- does not demonstrate knowledge of the ethical principles of nursing in client-centred clinical care

Further information
Most of the skills labs/simulations must be completed by the start of the training. The clinical training in the basics of clinical nursing must be passed.
