Objective

Upon completing the course, the student knows what the machine safety is based on, is able to utilize the legal material concerning machine safety and is able to apply risk assessment to improve the safety of machines. After the course, the student also understands and is able to clarify the impact of machine safety during the product development process. The student develops an understanding of how the risk assessment process is performed and how risks can be reduced by designing machines. The student understands the factors that make up the CE marking and is able to utilize the acquired knowledge to compile technical documentation.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student has an understanding of the most important concepts and processes related to machine safety. The student will be able to demonstrate which factors affect the safety of machines and how safety can be improved.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student masters the most important concepts and processes in machine safety. The student is able make the risks assesment for machines and to understand the origin of the risks. The student has a strong understanding of how legislation governs machine safety and what the requirement for the CE marking consists of.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is able to form a comprehensive proposal for measures to improve the safety of a machine, taking into account the legislation on machine safety and the assessment of machine risks. The student also has a strong understanding of the steps in the CE marking process and how it is part of the machine design process.
