Academic English Language and Information Searching IILaajuus (3 cr)

Objective

After the study module, students are able to use academic English accurately, effectively, and with confidence. Students have developed skills required for academic study, including language accuracy, authenticity and avoiding plagiarism, critically searching, choosing and using scientific sources, while at the same time developing time management and clear and logical organizational skills.

The student knows how to search, locate, evaluate and use scholarly information in studies and working life. The student knows how to use databases of health sciences. The student knows how to use library and information services effectively.

Content

Part 1: the writing process (avoiding plagiarism, planning, finding key points and note-making, paraphrasing, summarizing, references, combining sources, organizing paragraphs, introductions and conclusions, re-writing and proof-reading).
Part 2: elements of writing (cohesion, examples, style, visual information).

Information searching from nursing data bases with the help of informatics.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Academic English Language
Pass
The student meets the targets of the course, completes the assignments required on time, actively participates during lessons.
Fail
The students does not reach the targets of the course, fails to return the required assignments, does not participate during lessons.
