Objective

- Interpret automotive electrical wiring diagrams and understand their structure and notation
- Create basic installation and wiring plans for automotive electrical systems
- Explain the operating principles of common automotive electrical equipment and fundamental systems (lighting, charging, starting, and ignition systems)
- Explain the key principles of troubleshooting automotive electrical systems
- Search for and utilise up-to-date technical information related to automotive electrical systems.

- Starter battery and charging systems
- Wiring diagrams and diagram symbols
- Lighting, ignition and starting systems
- Other common electrical equipment
- Basics of hybrid and electric vehicles
- Electrical safety in high-voltage vehicles

No previous studies are required.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student recognises key concepts, interprets simple wiring diagrams and describes the basic principles of system operation and troubleshooting. Uses information sources with guidance.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student interprets wiring diagrams appropriately, explains the operation of common electrical systems and applies theory in typical situations. Uses up-to-date information independently.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student evaluates complex wiring diagrams, explains systems as integrated entities and applies principles in new situations. Justifies solutions and uses information critically.
