Objective

On completion of the course, the student will,
- can transform a real-world design problem into a CAE software simulation model
- be able to perform a structural simulation in CAE software
- be able to critically interpret the results of the simulation
- be able to compare the results of the simulation model with practical measurement results and analyse uncertainties in both simulation and measurement

In addition, the student will strengthen his/her analysis skills, design skills and technical reporting skills.

Content

- Routine use of FEM analyses in CAE software
- use of measurement results in FE analysis
- linear static analysis to aid design
- topology optimisation in practical design work
- linear dynamic analysis
- heat transfer analysis

Qualifications

Strength of Materials 1, FEM beginners course

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Satisfactory (1-2): Student knows the basics principals of the course and is able to utilize them.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good (3-4): Student knows the knowledge objectives of the course well and is cabable to conceive connections between learned issues

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5): Student knows the knowledge objectives of the course excellent and is able to evaluate and validate content of course
