Objective

The student can read and write hiragana and understands how other writing systems function. He learns dialogues of various communication situations and vocabulary related to them. The student knows how to greet, introduce oneself, tell the time, dialogues in shops and restaurants, ask the way and directions, numbers and important buildings. Furthermore, the student is acquainted with smart phone applications which support the language studies in Japanese.

Qualifications

No previous studies are required.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student knows some hiragana and kanji. He knows how to use some phrases and knows a part of the basic vocabulary learned during the course. The use of the basic grammar is partly inaccurate. The student doesn't necessarily reach the goal in all communication situations. Mistakes in pronunciation can impede comprehension.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student knows hiragana but makes some mistakes in using them.
He knows how to use phrases and some basic vocabulary. He knows the word order and is able to make questions. The student is confident while using the language and mistakes don't impede comprehension. There are some mistakes in pronunciation.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student knows the hiragana and understands the katagana system. He knows how to use phrases and some basic vocabulary. He knows the word order and is able to make questions.He can express himself in dialogues and other communication situations. The pronunciation is fluent and easy to understand.
