Objective

After a completed course the student is expected to be able to - To know basic philosophical, economical and underlying factors behind the integration process. - Understand and compare why EU – style and ASEAN style integration are different.- - Understand the fundamental of, neo-mercantilism and neo-liberalism and how and why that effects the level and form of integration. - Student should to understand and analyze the meaning and concept of regionalism, regionalization and integration and how that foster economic cooperation’s. - Formulate ideas and issues for the economic, trade and economic institutions development of the ASEAN. The aim of the course is to give the student - basic knowledge of ASEAN economic and business idea and philosophy. Students are able to address the fundamentals of the regional, philosophical, historical and cultural facts and regional economic structure that constitutes regional co-operation and ASEAN integration process. - Students are able to use special knowledge of diverse and complex environment, different effects and capacity of human organizations and actors in global and regional system to address regional problems and obstacles as opportunities. - Student are able to explain fundamental of ASEAN and describe concept of ASEAN economics

Content

The Economic Integration and area studies course covers theories and types of economic integration with comparative perspective, the theory of customs union and benefit of economic Integration, the movements of regional economic groupings, in particular the development and emergence of the European community and the European Union and the impact on the world economy. This study explains the emergence of the other regional economic groupings, with the emphasis on ASEAN and Asia. This is study of the economies of areas or regions, which are important to ASEAN and Asia. The course answer the question: 1. How ASEAN Integration and economic integration differs in European Union integration process. 2. Why ASEAN economic integration process is different than other regional organizations (RO integration style. 3. Why ASEAN integration represent economic regionalization and European Union represent economic regionalism. In broadly student are able to understand the concept of economic integration and understand why the integration process differs in different part in the world. This course addressed the connection between politics and economics in integration process.

No prior knowledge required.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

To pass the course the student needs 50% of the total points. The course can be passed by passing four part-exams, each giving 20 points,or by passing a final exam giving 80 points. Attendance amounts to 20 points. The part-exams are one chance only, for the final exam there are re-exams.
