Objective
After a completed course the student is expected to be able to: - Student should to know basic principles of ASEAN trade and commerce. - Student should to understand basics difference in ASEAN internal trade and external trade and advantages and obstacles of external and internal trade. - Understand the basic concept of trade in ASEAN member states as culture and structure behind the business procedure, political system and all over business environment. - Illustrate and explain the role of collectivism/individualism and how that affects organizations (and business environments) behaviour and dynamics. - Student are able to create simple country analysis by using PEST/PESTEL analysis. The aim of the course is to give the student: - Understand the cultural and social actors that constitute and create business environment in south-east Asia (ASEAN) countries and organizations and business behaviour - Analyze and interpret possible business opportunities and procedures for south-east Asian countries. The role and effects of collectivism and individualism - Able to use special knowledge of diverse and complex environment. Understand the role of public and private organizations and actors in ASEAN regional system to address regional problems as opportunities, including the meaning of formality and informality of business and organizations.
Content
The course covers types of trade development of ASEAN. Preparation and searching for business opportunities in the ASEAN countries. The emphasis is on the study of the economic systems and business operations in the ASEAN countries, which are targets of Finland’s business, especially in trade, finance, investment and manpower and resources mobility, in particular working opportunities in architecture, engineer, health services, digitalization and energy sectors which are now open in ASEAN. This course explains business environment, culture and climate with practical approach. The most fundamental question are: 1. How and why ASEAN structure and basic principles, like political culture and philosophy affects in Asean internal and external trade and investment. 2. Under this wide question what extent can foster relatively low ASEAN intra trade and intra investment inside the region? Despite ASEAN aspiration to increase its internal trade it is still around 25 percent of ASEAN total trade and not significant changes last 25 year.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
To pass the course the student needs 50% of the total points. The course can be passed by passing four part-exams, each giving 20 points, or by passing a final exam giving 80 points. Attendance amounts to 20 points. The part-exams are one chance only, for the final exam there are re-exams.
