Descriptions

This curriculum is for open Master-level UAS students. The curriculum includes first year studies in Master's Degree in Social Services and Health Care, Social Work. There is also some personal study planning in the open university's path studies.

The degree provides expertise in social work, where the aim is to promote wellfare and develope social services. The degree gives ability to plan and develop social services and management. The degree is based on socio-constructivistic view of learning.

The curriculum is based on three main topics: knowledge related to social welfare issues, development and research and management. These main topics are studied during the studies. The degree includes current courses related to welfare and several areas in the field of social services. Within freely chosen studies and in Master´s thesis, the student can focus on her/his own special areas of interest. Interaction between theory and the working life is highlighted in the studies.

Development

Students come from the working life, giving possibilities to link studies to development of working life. Collaboration with experts in social and health sectors, national and international networks is a key element in curriculum work and in teaching.

Objective

The aim of the degree is to create social welfare professionals, who think and act analytically and critically. Students gain new insights to social and to some extent also health care service organization, management and to learning new. The degree provides approaches and tools for doing development work and research.

Within Master´s thesis, the student can focus on her/his own special areas of interest. The courses are integrated so they support process of Master´s thesis.

Varied pedagogical methods are used. Students do their studies and courses independently and in groups. The degree involves mainly two contact days per month, also partly as remote learning.

A Master of Social Services
