Objective

Competence in the construction process:
The aim of the course is to provide students with the skills to apply their knowledge of steel structures in practical implementation. Students are able to describe the stages and working methods involved in the implementation of steel structures, both in the workshop and on site. Students recognize the basics of quality assurance in steel construction.

Content

- steel as building material and steel products (incl. stainless steels)
- typical structural steel solutions
- bolted connections
- basics of machine shop operations (fabrication of steel structures in the machine shop)
- welding: quality control, methods and marking
- corrosion and fire protection
- drawings
- installation of steel structures

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students recognize the stages and working methods involved in the implementation of steel structures, both in the workshop and on site. Students are able to describe the basics of quality assurance in steel construction.

Students are able to describe the stages and working methods involved in steel construction, both in the workshop and on site. They are familiar with the basics of quality assurance in steel construction.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students are able to describe the stages and working methods involved in the construction of steel structures in both engineering workshops and on construction sites in an excellent and versatile manner. They can apply the principles of quality assurance in steel construction in practical situations.

- Eurocode system (EN 1993 parts 1-1... 1-12, parts 2,3,4,5 and 6, SFS EN 1090 parts, national annexes)
