Steel Structures 2 (5cr)
Course unit code: RAK2J3
General information
- Credits
- 5 cr
- Teaching language
- Finnish
Objective
Competence in the construction process
Students can make use of computer programmes in the designing process of steel structures.
Competence in structural engineering
Students are competent in designing more demanding design cases. They are competent in designing more complicated joints for steel structures according to Eurocodes.
Content
- resistance of steel member under combination of internal forces when stability phenomena are critical
- dimensioning of steel truss members
- point load resistance
- dimensioning of stiffeners
- advanced dimensioning of connections (continuation of basics)
- utilization of application programs in the design and dimensioning of steel structures
Qualifications
Steel Structures 1, Strength of Materials, Frame Structures.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Students are able to use the Eurocode of steel structures in basic bar design situations and in the design of simple joints.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
Students are able to apply the Eurocode for steel structures in the dimensioning of various beam structures, the dimensioning of connections, and combined stress cases, taking into account the stability of structures.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
Students are able to apply the Eurocode for steel structures excellently in the dimensioning of various beam structures, the dimensioning of connections, and in combined stress cases, taking into account the stability of structures. Students are able to dimension a beam with a cross-sectional shear class of 4.
