Objective

Competence in the construction process
Students are able to identify statically indeterminate bar structures. Students understand the basics of curved bar structures.

Competence in structural engineering
Students are able to determine the degree of static indeterminacy and the degree of lateral displacement. Students are able to solve the displacement and stress state of statically indeterminate bar structures. Students are able to solve the stresses of a statically determinate curved bar structure.

Content

- degree of statical indeterminancy
- force method
- sway- and non-sway structure
- moment method
- finite element method for frame structures
- statically determinate curved bar structures

Qualifications

Statics, Strength of Materials.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students can recognize statically indeterminate beam structures. Students can determine the degree of static indeterminacy. Students can recognize structures that are laterally displaced and structures that are not laterally displaced. Students can solve the stress state of a simple statically indeterminate beam structure.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students are able to apply the solution methods for statically indeterminate bar structures taught in the course to solve the displacement and stress states of various beam, truss, and frame structures.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students are able to apply the solution methods for statically indeterminate beam structures taught in the course excellently to solve the displacement and stress states of various beam, truss, and frame structures. Students are able to solve the stresses of curved beam structures.
