- Finnish
Objective
Competence in the construction process
Students understand the role of geotechnics and foundation engineering as part of a construction project, and take into consideration their effect on the total cost of the project.
Competence in structural engineering
Students will acquire basic knowledge of soil and bedrock formation, as well as the different compositions of soil materials and their suitability for use as building foundations. Students will acquire basic knowledge of soil pressure, frost heave, and drainage, master the relevant working methods, and understand the importance of ground investigation for construction projects. Students will learn the key regulations and guidelines governing foundation construction. Students have a basic understanding of soil and rock foundations and piling, and are proficient in the working methods involved. Students are able to independently acquire information that develops their quality management skills.
